Reconstruction of existing industrial facilities often faces a severe constraint: the project requires increasing usable space (adding additional floors), but the current soil conditions are not designed to support additional static loads.

An ambitious project and real geology

As part of a modernization project at a food factory in the Kyiv region, a project was developed to add additional floors to the existing production facility. However, the engineering survey phase revealed a critical issue:

  • Survey results:The current soils at the base of the foundations had low strength and deformation characteristics.
  • Dilemma:Traditional methods of strengthening foundations (installing piles, concrete “jacket”) would require stopping food production, carrying out large-scale excavation work and creating high levels of dust, which is unacceptable in the food industry.

Problem: Lack of bearing capacity

When adding floors, the pressure on the foundation increases proportionally. If the soil’s bearing capacity is lower than the design load:

Technical solution: strengthening the soil massif
